A great time was had by all at the inaugural Counties Cycle Classic on Sunday 19 November
Nearly 200 riders signed up for the first ever Counties Cycle Classic - a dream child of Graham Russell.  He came up with the idea in response to slowly falling proceeds from our annual book sale which earned more than 20K in its heyday, but has shrunk now to about half that.  Along with the  Golf Tournament, the book sale has been our major fund raiser allowing us to donate around 30K each year to a variety of causes.
First year out of the blocks, and the cycle event has raised around 8K with all signs being that the event will grow and grow.
It was run over three different course lengths around Franklin, with a special category for e-bikes.  Light rain at the start had us worried, but the day cleared up, and apart from the wind conditions were perfect.
A major sponsor of the event was the Franklin Local Board of Auckland Council, and local representative Andy Baker commented: "Well done all involved. Great for the Local Board to be able to support an awesome event. A massive effort so good stuff"
While most of the organisation and prep work fell to a small handful of Rotarians, headed by Graham, on the day just about every club member and many WAGs showed up to help out, so a great team effort
